Minneapolis, MN – May 19, 2008 - “The transition to new renewable energy sources must be completed by 2040 or conventional oil reserves will run out. A 50-year transition will result in certain and severe economic hardship,” says Joe Shuster, chemical engineer, entrepreneur and author of the new book, Beyond Fossil Fools…The Roadmap to Energy Independence by 2040.
Shuster says the solution is clear and his book proposes a quantified plan and a timetable for moving beyond fossil foolishness. “Energy produced by the wind, the sun and nuclear power is available, affordable, attainable, clean and renewable.”
Shuster’s plan outlined in Beyond Fossil Fools:
•Vigorously support a combination wind, solar and nuclear energy (fast neutron) by 2040.
•Transform our transportation fleet as rapidly as possible, away from internal combustion engines to hybrid plug-ins and all-electric vehicles, within 30 years.
•Aggressively develop biofuels from non-food sources such as cellulosic ethanol and algae biodiesel.
Shuster says, “Global warming is merely one dramatic symptom among many of the problems of burning fossil fuels. The only real, viable, certain way to end human-caused global warming is to stop using them. The world and the U.S. must not let the many, mostly inconsequential, band aid solutions distract and deflect us from deploying real solutions. Conservation is always good, but can only buy the world an additional 10 years.“
Energy resources are depleting rapidly and pollution from burning fossil fuels is mounting. Populations and economies are growing at a fast pace, greatly increasing the demand for energy to fuel agriculture, industry, transportation and our energy intensive lifestyles.
In his book, Shuster states that the certain way to save huge volumes of oil and gasoline is through a rapid transition to all plug-in hybrids and all-electric vehicles. He says, “It’s imperative that we stretch our reserves, limit pollution and decrease demand along with our deployment of wind, solar and nuclear systems.”
Shuster is on a mission to encourage Americans and others to pay attention to the “single most important issue of this century” and do their part to move our country and the world towards energy independence by 2040.
